To live your dreams, you must take action and overcome your fears….
Overcoming your limiting fears
Last week I had the privilege of attending two events where His Holiness the Dalai Lama was speaking. In my opinion, this was truly a once in a lifetime event. I feel like I probably had the “cat that ate the canary” grin on my face the entire time. I was like a sponge absorbing everything I could.
One of the key points the Dalai Lama shared with us was that our enemy is our greatest teacher. Some people may be thinking, “Well, I don’t have any enemies so this message is not for me.”
Understanding that the message His Holiness was sharing was much more than a message for countries at war with each other, I researched the definition of “enemy”. One definition I found was from Merriam-Webster – Enemy – One that is antagonistic to another; especially one seeking to injure, overthrow, or confound an opponent. Another definition I found was – Enemy – A person who feels hatred for, fosters harmful designs against, or engages in antagonistic activities against another; an adversary or opponent.
After thinking about these two definitions, I would like to suggest here that enemy doesn’t just mean a country which may be fighting a war. Enemy could also mean someone you don’t get along with. Maybe you disagree strongly with this person and/or disagree with their behavior.
With that said, how in the world can an enemy, someone we don’t like, we strongly disagree with and don’t even want to be around, be our greatest teacher? To understand this, there are a couple more points we should discuss.
We are all alike in the sense we are human beings living in physical bodies. We are spiritual and we have an intellect. We all seek happiness, compassion and love. These things are easy with our friends. There is no stretch to find compassion, happiness and love when interacting with our friends, right? We like to talk with them. We like to be around them. We laugh and cry with them. It is easy to love them.
Now let’s take a look at someone we dislike; someone who could fall under the category of “enemy”. Is it easy to sit with them and have a discussion? Do we like being around them? They may make us want to cry but is it easy to laugh with them? Is it easy to love them? The answer to all of these questions is, more than likely, a big fat NO.
Here is where the lesson begins. We must remember our enemy is just like us. They are made of flesh and blood. They are spiritual beings with an intellect. They are also seeking happiness, compassion and love, just like us. We must engage in dialogue in order to create greater understanding. In order to do this we must have tolerance for people who are different from ourselves. Tolerance for people with an opinion different from our own. Tolerance for people who believe differently from us. Through this tolerance we learn compassion and love for those we do not fully understand.
It is in our nature to ridicule what we don’t understand. Instead of ridicule, we should seek to understand. This means to take a step back and look at a situation or circumstance from the other person’s perspective.
With these steps of tolerance, compassion and love toward our enemy, we grow in our own awareness of this marvelous Universe we all share. Without this “enemy” we would not fully learn true tolerance, true compassion and true love.
I wonder what would happen if each person made it a point to look upon their enemy as their teacher and sought to learn the lessons.
In a previous article, I talked about the Universal Law of Polarity, also called the Law of Opposites. With the recent devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan I wanted to revisit this Law.
The Law of Polarity states that everything has an equal opposite. You cannot have an up without a down, an inside of a room without an outside of a room, a front of you without a back of you. More important……you cannot have a bad without a good.
To me, as I am sure with all of you, things look very bad in Japan right now. There are entire communities wiped out. There are nuclear power plants melting down, and there is debris and destruction almost everywhere. It is very easy to only focus on these horrible things, right?
Let’s all take a step back and ask ourselves the question……”What’s good about it?” and remember, the Universal Laws work the same all the time. What has happened in Japan, at least to me, looks very bad. I also know there has to be very much good in the situation. All I must do is find it. Instead of focusing on how horrible this all makes me feel, I should look for the good, find it and focus on it.
As I continue to sit here and think about “what’s good” already some things come to mind. I have seen an outpouring of help being offered to the people of Japan. One of the first search and rescue teams on the ground was a team from New Zealand which is still recovering from its own earthquake. On the news feeds I have seen neighbors helping neighbors and sharing instead of hoarding and complaining about why nobody is helping them.
I cannot help but believe the world will come out of this with new and better ways to generate and store nuclear energy. This may even stir the creative juices into high gear to create better fuel and energy alternatives which won’t harm the environment when Mother Nature flexes her muscles. Maybe we could even harness the energy generated from events like these, store it and use it to our benefit. I also believe this event will lead to improved warning systems for earthquakes and tsunami’s in the future. This list can go on and on.
The only limits to our imaginations are those we impose on ourselves.
I challenge each of you today to stop feeling down and depressed about what has happen. Yes, have compassion and love for the people and what they are going through. Also ask yourselves, “What is good about it and what can I do to help?” If you open yourself up for the answer you will be surprised at what you hear (that little nudge inside from the Universe). Take action on that nudge! You will be so glad you did.

Since we are in full swing of the “Holiday Season” I thought it would be a great idea to talk about the Universal Law of Giving. In some circles this is called the Law of Reciprocity. I, personally, like calling it the Law of Giving. Or, even better, the Law of Giving and Receiving.
Deepak Chopra tells us “The universe operates through dynamic exchange…giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe…. And , our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives.”
What Dr. Chopra is saying is that by giving, the universe must respond and give back to us. Something that is very important to realize is that our giving must be with no expectation of “getting back”. One of my mentors, Bob Proctor, said this very simply; “We must willingly give and graciously receive.”
You may be thinking to yourself “I’m broke. I have nothing to give.” I have to tell you that you are truly mistaken in that comment. Giving isn’t just giving something of monetary value. Giving of yourself is probably the greatest gift you can give.
Try this for a week: Give every person you encounter, in person or over the phone, the beautiful gift of your smile. This may be in the form of just smiling at them, making them laugh, or paying them a compliment. I would bet that, after a week, you will want to continue this for a longer period of time!
You will notice that this practice of giving to everyone you meet will raise your positive vibration. You will actually feel better. You will also notice that good things start coming your way unexpectedly. This is the Law of Attraction at work. Since you are sending out good, more good is coming back to you. Energy must always return to it source.
Until next time……SMILE!!
Gratitude
It seems appropriate to talk about giving thanks as we celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday in the United States.
In his book The Science of Getting Rich, Wallace Wattles devoted an entire chapter to a discussion about gratitude. In this chapter Wattles says “Many people who order their lives rightly in all other ways are kept in poverty by their lack of gratitude.” He goes on to say “The grateful mind is constantly fixed upon the best; therefore it tends to become the best; it takes the form or character of the best, and will receive the best.”
WOW! What powerful statements. In order to receive the good we desire, we need to be grateful for everything we currently have. In this way, we are sending out positive attractive vibrations which will, by law, send us more to be grateful for.
Every night before you go to sleep, think about at least five things you are grateful for that day. By doing this, you are focusing your positive energy and will come ever closer to all the wonderful things you desire.
Some final words from Wattles…..”The law of gratitude is the natural principle that action and reaction are always equal, and in opposite directions. The grateful outreaching of your mind in thankful praise….is a liberation….it cannot fail….and the reaction is an instantaneous movement toward you.”
Let’s all be grateful not only at this time of year, but let’s show our gratitude every day!
May you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving and be grateful for the things you cherish.
1. Intention = You must have a clear intention of what you want to create for yourself. Your goals need to be something your passionate about that your willing not to go without.
2. Attention = Placing your attention on what you want and focusing on the end vision is key. Most people are so focused on what’s not working, how little they have in their wallets and that’s what your giving energy and attention to. Remember if you have children you give them attention, attention = LOVE – Most people are in love with being broke because their attending to it all day long.
3. Energy = Everything on this planet is energy. We are energy in a larger field of energy. GET FIRED UP ABOUT WHAT YOUR CREATING. You will be a magnet to all the things you desire when you radiate this kind of energy.
4. Belief = You must have an unbending belief in YOURSELF, PRODUCT AND INDUSTRY. The most important belief is in Yourself. When you have that, you are unstoppable in any business your in. Know like you know that your in the process of creating massive success for yourself.
5. Growth – You must be growth driven. You must constantly be emersing yourself in that which empowers you. This world is constantly evolving and growing. What worked for you a year ago is obsolete. We must constantly be learning and growing more. Learning new ways to market, constantly working on your own personal development.
There is a story in Sharon Lechter and Greg Reid’s book Three Feet From Gold which talks about a man who literally gave up on his gold mine only about three feet from the largest vein that had yet to be tapped into.
If what you want is something you truly desire, why would you give up on it? If the goal or ideal doesn’t manifest at the time we decide it should, it does not mean we picked the wrong goal. All it means is that we picked the wrong date.
This has happened to me in my life. In the distant past I, like the majority of people out there, gave up on a goal because it didn’t happen when I wanted it to. There were many opportunities I let pass me by because of this. The good news is that I know differently now. By understanding the Law of Gender I understand that my job is to visualize and focus on my goal, have faith that the “idea seed” I planted into my mind will manifest at exactly the right time according to Universal Law, and BE PATIENT. James Allen tells us in his wonderful book As A Man Thinketh that calmness of mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom. We need to take Allen’s advice and calm down.
Once I started living in harmony with this beautiful Law of Gender, my whole life changed for the better. I started getting the results I wanted. I want to stress here that the Universal Laws don’t just work for a few people, they work for everyone. That should be magnificent news.
Do what I do every day……
· Focus on your goals/your purpose
· Feel grateful for having possession of the good you desire right now
· Have faith that the idea seeds you planted in your marvelous mind are manifesting at exactly the right time
· Be patient. Calmness of mind is extremely important
